3 Great Gadgets for Those on the Go

If you’ve ever tried to juggle your coffee cup while wheeling luggage and toting a briefcase, book, or magazine through the airport, wishing you had an extra hand, you’ll love the tugo™ cup holder. Attach it to the handle of your bag and it holds the cup level and steady even when the bag is on a slant while you’re walking. I call this one ingenious.

And what about trying to get some work done while you’re waiting for your flight? Here are two items that turn those waiting areas into work stations. The Travel Table is a flat platform that attaches securely to the handle of your carry-on so that you can open your laptop and work comfortably while you wait. When you’re ready to board, it detaches quickly for storage right in your briefcase or computer bag.

And finally there’s the Trip (right), a travel bag that actually turns into a seat. It’s small enough to fit in the overhead compartment yet big enough and sturdy enough, with a tripod-like brace that opens for balance, so that you can sit on it wherever you are. No more searching for an empty seat in the boarding area, or having to squeeze in next to a family of five and their luggage. Find yourself a quiet corner, sit on your Trip, and open your laptop or check messages on your phone while you wait.

I am always on the look out for a good adapter to keep in my bag at all times, and this one is a great combination. The World Connect Travel Adapter works in more than 150 countries and has prongs that slide out to accommodate virtually any two-pronged appliance, such as a hair dryer, a travel iron, or a camera.

The USB charger plugs right into the adapter lets me charge all my mobile devices including my iPhone and iPod anywhere in the world. Years ago I was always traveling with a whole bagful of plug adapters because I was never quite sure which one I was going to need. Now I know that with this one compact, lightweight adapter/charger I’ll be set wherever I go.

Carry the Fueltank and Charge Your Mobile Phone on the Go

CALLPOD-fueltank_duo

With this wonderful gadget you can charge virtually any small electronic device ranging from a smartphone to an iPod even when you’re not anywhere near an electrical outlet.

The Fueltank comes in two models—the Uno (for charging a single device) and the Duo (which charges two at a time)—and, based on my personal experience, it’s not surprising that it was an Innovations Honoree at the 2009 Consumer Electronics Show, the ultimate showcase for the latest in cutting-edge gadgetry. If I don’t have time or forget to charge my phone or my BlackBerry before leaving home, I can now get a fill-up from my Fueltank.

You’ll Flip for The Flip

THE FLIP VIDEO-WORLD

I don’t own one of these, but I’m definitely putting it on my holiday wish list. Travel photos—even digital ones—are so yesterday. But camcorders are so cumbersome to carry around—or at least they were. The Flip has changed all that. Weighing in at well under a pound and not much bigger than a BlackBerry, this is the camcorder you can take anywhere. Not only that, but you can plug it right into a USB port in your laptop and send videos to friends and family back home while you’re still miles—or continents—away. Depending on the model you choose, it takes either 60 or 120 minutes of video, and the built-in software allows you to edit, and, yes, even capture still photos right on your computer.

Another fun feature is that you can personalize your Flip to reflect your personality by choosing from a wide variety of patterns or even creating your own image. Check out all the models on The Flip’s own website or go to Amazon.com and add it to your cart or your wish list.

Callpod Chargepod Travel Charger

chargepodjpg

All those wireless devices we depend on for business and pleasure are keeping us more plugged in than ever—in more ways than one. If you’re traveling with multiple chargers you know what I mean, and if you’ve ever lost or forgotten one, you know how that feels—silenced, cut off, lost in space.

My answer is the compact, handy Chargepod, which allows you to plug up to six different devices into one central core and charge them all at once. The “pod” is less than 3 inches in diameter and weighs just over one ounce, and you can purchase removable adapters for virtually any kind of phone, PDA, camera, or gaming device. It will even charge your Kindle. Unplug the adapters, pack everything in one small Ziplock, and you’re good to go anywhere.

I was so thrilled with mine that I’ve since bought two more and now have one in my home, one in my car, and one that lives permanently in my suitcase. Check it out for yourself. Their customer service department is also extremely helpful and accommodating, as I discovered when I had to return a couple of adapters I’d purchased by mistake.
