Wrap Yourself in Fashion Chic

For the style-savvy New York City woman traveler Penchant Dressmakers’ wrap dress combines the ultimate in luxury, packability, and practicality.

With this dress in your wardrobe you’ll be business-appropriate at your breakfast meeting and fashionably flirty at dinner without ever having to change.

Go to the showroom for a one-on-one appointment with a design consultant who will help you to customize your dress to the fabric and color of your choice and, if you’d prefer, to your exact body measurements.

A wrap dress is always figure flattering, but this one can literally be fitted to your figure. Fabric choices range from silk jersey to wool to suede to Nappa leather. Colors are almost endless, and you can choose either long or three-quarter sleeves. You’ll have a hard time deciding on just one, but with the many mix-and-match options available, you can easily have more than one and they’ll each be one of a kind.

Chic Wallets that Travel in Style

Whenever I travel I change the wallet I use every day and transfer just the essentials—my identification, several credit cards, and some cash—to one of the many “travel wallets” I own. My travel wallet needs to be small enough to fit in my pocket but stylish enough to make me feel good about carrying it.

Here several of the latest styles that are available online, and that fill the bill with me (meaning they meet my standards of being stylish, functional, and durable). They are compact and have the look of luxury.

The bright green Bottega Veneta Zip-Around Wallet (above) is perfect for both credit cards and coins. Made of the softest Italian leather, and available in several colors. I love  having wallets in bright colors, that make it easy to spot in the bottom of my bag.

Available in 2 beautiful bold oh-so-Pucci color styles of coral (shown) or royal blue on Italian patent leather, the Emillio Pucci Credit Card Case (to the right) has 3 slits for cards on one side, and a clear ID window on the other.

Love this patent leather  YSL Y Mail Card Case (not shown) with its signature gold letter house address (in Paris naturally) and a fun post mark!  It is used for business cards mainly, but its so beautiful that I would use it for credit cards as well.

Travel Bags for Him

Who says men don’t care what their luggage looks like? I know men care about style, so I’ve found three great travel bags any style-savvy guy would be pleased to carry on board.

The Santiago Gonzalez crocodile zip-top duffle bag (right) in gray or brown is the absolute height of travel luxury. Son of Nancy Gonzalez, premiere designer of luxury handbags made from exotic animal skins, Santiago has created a man-bag that easily rivals his mother’s made-for-her creations.

Then there’s the Mismo Hercules classic leather doctor’s bag (right). It opens wide for easy access, has an adjustable shoulder strap, meets airline carry-on restrictions, and has two inside compartments—one zipped and the other open. Just what the doctor ordered for any guy on the go.

And finally, Fleabag’s Gun Powder Bag has a classic military look. The bottom, frame, handles, and trim are black leather and the body is grey-green waterproof waxed cotton canvas. There’s a detachable webbing shoulder strap, and the interior is roomy with a pocket that is separated into two compartments. It’s as sturdy as it looks and designed to stand up to hard travel.

5 Ways to Wear a White + Warren Travel Wrap

This video demonstrates 5 creative ways you can tie, drape, and wear this amazing travel wrap. Last fall I bought one of these luxuriously cozy, 100 percent cashmere White + Warren Travel Wraps, and now I literally can’t imagine being without it at home or on the road. In fact it is one of the essential travel items available in the In-Flight Insider Shop.

The oversized (81 X 36-inch) wrap doubles as a scarf (or rolled up on the airplane I use it as a pillow or a blanket) and goes as well with a dress as it does with a blazer or thrown over jeans and a tee shirt, and it’s actually a lot less expensive than it looks.

It is available many fabulous fall colors from delicate Light Grey Heather to cozy Flaxseed Heather, as well as Black, Cinnamon (coming soon), or Porcelain White and more.

Fall Fashion Tips from Stylist Sarah Parlow

Celebrity fashion stylist Sarah Parlow comes by her passion naturally. She learned her love of all things fashion as a little girl trailing her mother through countless department store dressing rooms.

Now she works with countless movie stars and music stars as well as haute magazines and designers. And her innovative “Virtual Closet” allows her to meet her clients’ needs even when they’re on the road. Sarah has created a look book for all occasions, so when you really need to put your best foot forward once you land….

As you have learned, I am a woman who adores style and fashion so when I caught up with Sarah recently I had to ask her what are her favorites and what’s not to be missed for the fall!

Carolyn: What travel friendly piece do you love for this fall?

Sarah: There’s nothing more travel friendly than knits- they are comfortable, you can roll them up, stuff them in your suitcase and they don’t wrinkle. Like this turtleneck and long sweater by Yigal Azrouel (pictured  here).  The long sweater could be used as a blanket, or rolled up and used as a pillow on the plane.  Put a belt on over it as you are getting off and you would look super chic.

Carolyn: What is your favorite accessory for this season?

Sarah: For me it is the tall hat.  I will be purchasing the one by Trussardi 1911 (below right) but also love the one by J.Crew that you can fold up and put in your bag.

Carolyn: When you are styling a client for a trip what item do you feel is a must-have?

Sarah: When a client is going away for work or play I recommend they take a slipper for the plane so you can kick off your shoes and don’t want to hassle with putting them back on when you want to get up from your seat. Plus, they feel great and easily fit into your purse or carry on bag. The Cashmere Slipper Slide by Arlotta by Chris Arlotta (available at Saks Fifth Avenue) is a great option.

The Perfect Travel Bag

I am always looking for that perfectly shaped bag, one that accommodates everything I want to carry around town with me or onboard a flight.  And of course it has to fit my requirements of being durable, functional, and chic.

After several months of personally testing this bag (daily use, weekend get-aways, and travel abroad), I am happy to say that this “Original Fleabag” not only fits the bill, but I am delighted to include it in my In-Flight Insider Shop!

Limited Edition for the Fall is the Original Fleabag: Satellite (shown right) is made of black waterproof cotton, which is great for weather conditions in any region. Perfect for fall is the Original Fleabag in ”Saddle” (shown below) is constructed of rich brown vegetable tanned leather and organic cotton/hemp canvas.

One feature that I love is that there are 2 pockets close to the top: the open one holds my BlackBerry so that I can actually hear my phone ring and I don’t have to dig around for it when I need it, the other, a zipper compartment is perfect for holding my keys or other valuables I don’t want to lose.

In terms of it being truly suitable for travel, I found it to be the perfect slim bag that’s both easy to carry and easy to stow under the seat, or keep by my side. Although not considered a bag for computers, my 15″ laptop fits well… plus everything else I need for my flight!

A Great Travel Handbag Needs to be Packable, Durable, and Chic

Many of you are probably aware that I’m constantly on the lookout for handbags that travel well. I don’t own this one—yet—but it absolutely fulfills my three basic requirements (style, function, and also durable).

The “Jenna” tote by Beirn is made of watersnake, which is both smoother and more durable than the snakeskin you’re probably familiar with. It’s light, packs flat, and is great looking. In addition, it’s big enough to hold everything you need, has two open and one zip pocket on the inside to keep you organized and your valuables safe, and it has a magnetic snap closure at the top. With a shoulder strap for hands-free carrying, this is a bag I’d be happy to take with me anywhere I go.

The Packable, Flattering Cocktail Dress

I’m always looking for a dress that’s stylish, won’t wrinkle, and that I can wear to a cocktail party, reception, or dinner when I’m traveling. The Nicole Miller Butterfly Dress fills all those criteria.

Its slim lines won’t take up too much room in your suitcase, and with the flattering-for-all-types-rouching (the crisscrossed diagonal pleating) both top and bottom, and it’s effectively already wrinkled, so no worries there! Also, the bit of spandex in the material, the pleating, and the off-the-shoulder neckline make it flattering and forgiving for almost any figure. I also love the fact that it’s charcoal gray instead of the usual cocktail dress black, so it’s just a subtle bit different and appropriate for any season.

Protect Your iPad When Traveling with a Thinvelope

For the business traveler I am always thinking of stylish products that fit your needs. For those of you who have already purchased your iPad, I found a case that may be just right for you. Thinvelope made by beyzacases, is a sleek and slim lightweight way to carry your iPad on the plane and to your meetings.

It’s a thin leather sleeve shaped like an envelope that’s made to fit the iPad perfectly so it doesn’t slide around. The soft velvet lining adds a protective element without adding bulk.

You can get it in one of seven vibrant colors ranging from black to deep purple. While you’re at it, you can also give your MacBook a facelift by getting it a Thinvelope or a really nifty messenger bag carry case from beyzacases as well.

Travel Friendly Shoes that Provide Instant Relief from High-Heel Style

What do you do when your feet are killing you at the end of a day or at a party? You’re probably thinking that if you can’t get out of those stilettos – you just might start to cry? I found these incredible travel friendly roll-up ballet flats with soles that you can easily carry in your bag and will withstand city streets! The name~ Footzyrolls!

They come in many colors (including Wedding White) with their own little case and a bag to put your shoes in. Pop the Footzyrolls into your purse and you’ll never have to worry about whether or not you should risk wearing (or ruining) those gorgeous high heels that go so perfectly with your outfit. They are also a great option for air travelers when you want to wear something that’s a bit more comfortable.

Now you can have an extra pair of shoes for your trip that weigh close to nothing and take up virtually no room in your handbag or suitcase. Problem solved, now you’ll have your own personal first aid kit for your feet with you at all times.
