A Quick Fix for Dry Lips

We all know that the air in plane cabins can be really drying for your lips as well as your skin. Using a gloss that not only colors but hydrates and plumps will keep your lips looking and feeling great both in-flight and on the ground.

I was delighted to find  and try a new lipgloss named LuMesh. It’s long-lasting, has a bit of a “cooling” feeling, enriched with vitamin E, not sticky, taste and fragrance-free (a big plus in my book) and it even has a mirror built right into the case for easy touch-ups anywhere.

Discover the “Magic” of Egyptian Magic All-Purpose Skin Cream

Egyptian Magic is an all-natural product made from living plants and organisms. Worth noting, its a “solid” so you don’t have to worry about it being a TSA 3.4 oz restricted liquid.

The ingredient list is simple: Olive Oil, Bees Wax, Honey, Bee Pollen, Royal Jelly, and Propolis Extract. This skin cream is available online or at health and natural food stores across the United States.

I’ve found it to be extremely effective for treating dry skin—a real problem for frequent flyers or those who are dealing with variations in water quality from one location to another. I keep two jars on hand at all times—one at home and one in my travel bag.

3 Fl. Oz. Eliminates the Mess

Okay, so maybe you can decant 3 ounces of your shampoo into a travel-size bottle, but if you’re just a tiny bit clumsy you can wind up with as much on the outside of the bottle as inside, and cleaning up that soapy mess can be tricky. And what do you do with creams that come in squeeze tubes? Or how about aerosols that can’t be decanted at all?

While some products do come in miniature “travel” sizes, they can be hard to find. But now there’s an easier online solution: 3 floz.com offers a wide variety of high quality hair care, cleansing, and beauty products already packaged in airline-friendly 3-ounce containers.

Dr. Shirley Madhere’s Top 3 Tips on Sunscreen and Post-Sun Skin Care

Even though snow is still falling, in just a few weeks it will be time for spring vacations. So I asked Dr. Shirley Madhere for a few tips on how best we can both enjoy and protect ourselves from the sun.

A well-known and highly respected plastic surgeon, Dr. Shirley (as she is most often called) approaches treatment from a holistic perspective that integrates cutting-edge Western medicine with a variety of complementary modalities in order to ensure the best possible care and outcomes for her patients.

Carolyn: “With everybody headed toward the sun, which sunscreen do you like best?”
Dr. Madhere: “In general, a broad –spectrum sunscreen that covers both UVA and UVB rays is best. I recommend La Roche-Posay Anthelios Sx.”

MD Skincare EZ4U 2 Go Towelettes

I was frankly wowed when a friend gave me a couple of these to try. The individually wrapped 4-in-1 towelettes are saturated with a combination cleanser, toner, wrinkle fighter, and moisturizer—yes, four separate skin care products in one!

They’re a great time-saver when you’re in a hurry; they take up almost no room in your luggage if you’re traveling (or in your purse when you’re on the go at home), and you can carry them onto a plane without violating any TSA restrictions on liquids. It’s actually great to be able to cleanse and moisturize your face with no muss or fuss after hours in plane so that you arrive at your destination feeling bright and refreshed.

Even better, the towelettes come in packs of 30 or in a “travel pack” of 7 applications.

Jet Set Beauty Rx

Picture 8

Dr. Shirley Madhère is a New York City-based plastic surgeon with a discerning and devoted following. She was featured in the September issue of Town and Country magazine, where she described one of the basic tenets of plastic surgery as adhering to the basic principles of maintaining “form and function.” This concept is very similar to one of the many the criteria I use to select the products and services I use and recommend.

One of Dr. Madhère’s special services is her modern version of the doctor’s house call, “Jet Set Beauty Rx.” Like concierge medicine, the surgeon is available by appointment only to provide select services in the privacy of your home, office, or jet, with or without her glam team– an aesthetician, acupuncturist, hair stylist, nail technician, and other beauty and wellness professionals. This holistic team will tend to clients’ every beauty need, whether it be to give them that radiant pre-gala glow or rejuvenate them post-travel.

I’ve been lucky enough to have indulged in Dr. Madhere’s Vitaglow treatments, and I can attest to the fact that the results are truly amazing!

Love that lipstick you bought last year in Asia or the perfect blush you found in Germany…but now you’re scraping around the edges to get out the last little bit because there doesn’t appear to be any place you can replace it without taking another trip abroad? Ted Gibson’s Hair Sheet

Ted_hairsheetNo, it’s not some new kind of bed linen. These are portable towlettes (sort of like Handi-Wipes for the hair).

I’m sure you’ve noticed that water quality differs from one location to the next. It may be harder or softer or—as in Dubai—desalinated. And your hair can become drier, limper, or duller depending on the water it’s washed in. That’s why I always carry a supply of Ted Gibson’s Hair Sheet treatment towlettes when I travel. A Manhattan-based celebrity hairstylist, Gibson has created a formula that keeps my hair healthy and shiny wherever I am. You can try Ted Gibson’s Hair Styling Sheets at the end of a long flight, or when you feel you could use a little pick-me-up.
