In-Flight Insider Warning: TSA Tracking Rude Behavior

With a busy Memorial Day coming up this weekend, tempers may be running hot, but it’s more important than ever for you to keep your cool.

The TSA has a little known database where abusive travelers get their names recorded in a national “Hall of Shame.”  Those travelers, who act out and say the wrong thing, could make their future trips a little tougher to handle.

Privacy advocates worry that such a database could subject innocent people to extra airport screening, but the TSA says the list is being constructed to counter violence in the workplace.

The TSA database includes names, Social Security numbers and birthdates for all the people involved in the incident. A threat, verbal abuse, comments about death and violence or overt displays of anger can put you on this government watchdog list.

The In-Flight Insider reminds you that when you are flying – being nice and civil to airport and airline personnel can open a wide variety of doors for you and your family.

Besides keeping you off of the TSA list, friendly behavior can lead to upgrades, free drinks and any number of advantages that you would probably miss out on if you lose your cool. Remember, these people are already working on the holiday and it’s a good idea to stay on their good side. Separate yourself from the herd by being the “nice one” and don’t fall victim to the stress bug.

One way to do this is to show up early!  Being the early bird helps you ignore troublesome delays that could otherwise put you on edge. Not only will being positive and friendly make you eligible for some nice perks, but keeping cool will actually help you keep your blood pressure in check as well.

Remember, no one ever really won an argument with a TSA agent or a flight attendant.

I did not know this. I almost gave aTSA agent a piece of my mind at Newark Airport this past week.
He yelled at my wife for a minor issue.
So we just have to grin and bear it? Is there any recourse?

Its best for you to keep your cool, and get through security. Perhaps if you think there is a significant problem/injustice with the TSA, I would calmly ask for a supervisor.

Perhaps the airlines need to quit being so cheap and learn a thing or two about customer service, then perhaps people won’t easily lose their cool when, say, their flight is canceled.

True! Good customer service makes all the difference for the traveler, even when things go wrong.
